What Happened to the News on My Roku Player?
Without much fanfare, Roku made a change to the Roku Home Screen. If you noticed, you may be asking… “What happened to the News on my Roku Player?” If you got your daily fix of news by clicking on Roku News… sorry… It’s gone!
What Happened to the News on My Roku Player?
Did you notice the “News” navigation was gone from your Roku Home Screen?
Roku has confirmed that they permanently removed the News section from the Roku Home Screen… and they have no plans to bring it back.
Why did Roku remove those great news video snippets? The news video snippets were easy to scroll through and you could select the news stories that interested you.
Roku probably removed the News section to increase viewing of the news on their new app, The Roku Channel. The Roku Channel has ABC News, Cheddar, Newsy Top Stories, and People TV.
With the News section gone, the Roku Home Screen has the following navigation:
- Home
- My Feed
- Movie Store
- TV Store
- Search
- Streaming Channels
- Settings
(“Featured Free” is rolling out to Roku devices now. Look for it on your Roku Home Screen navigation soon.)

How To Get The News
With the News link gone, Roku Customer Service suggests Roku users should get their news from one of the news sources on their app, The Roku Channel. Or… pick one of the many news apps from the Roku Channel Store.
