TiVo Sues Comcast For Patent Infringement
TiVo sues Comcast for patent infringement in TiVo’s latest move to protect the unlicensed use of TiVo’s patented inventions.
TiVo has provided TV entertainment and DVR technology since 1999. Since 1999, TiVo’s investments in Research & Development (R&D) has led to many patents. Over the years, TiVo has consistently protected the unlicensed use of their patents with multiple patent infringement lawsuits. Currently, TiVo is pursing patent infringement litigation against Comcast.
TiVo Sues Comcast for Patent Infringement
On November 21, 2017 the International Trade Commission (ITC) ruled that some of Comcast’s (Xfinity) X1 set-top boxes violated two of TiVo’s patents.

Following the November 2017 ITC ruling, TiVo is now pursuing further legal action against Comcast.
A TiVo press release on January 11, 2018 outlines the basis for the most recent lawsuit against Comcast:
The lawsuits allege that Comcast’s X1 platform infringes technology invented and patented by Rovi (TiVo parent company), including pausing and resuming shows on different devices, restarting live programming in progress, advanced DVR recording features, and advanced search & voice functionality. *
The TiVo press release also indicates future legal action against Comcast:
In addition to today’s filings, Rovi (TiVo parent company) plans to file an additional legal action with the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) regarding the same patents, and will be seeking an exclusion order preventing infringing X1 set-top boxes from continuing to be imported into the United States. In November 2017, the ITC ruled that Comcast infringed two Rovi patents and issued an exclusion order, effectively barring the importation and sale of infringing X1 set-top boxes. *
