Roku Connect and Roku Entertainment Assistant
Roku announces Roku Connect and Roku Entertainment Assistant. Roku Connect and Roku Entertainment System will work together to create a multi-room Roku Home Entertainment Network that includes TV and audio speakers. The Roku Home Entertainment Network is a system that will stream TV and movies, control home audio speakers, and respond to voice commands.
The Roku Connect and Roku Entertainment Assistant will be available in the fall of 2018. Most Roku players and Roku TV models will be eligible to receive free Roku Connect and the Roku Entertainment Assistant upgrades. Look for TCL to release the first Roku Connect devices.
Roku Connect
Roku Connect is a way for soundbars, speakers, and other audio devices to be wirelessly connected to a Roku player, Roku TV, or other Roku Connect devices. A device with the Roku Connect software can be controlled through a single Roku remote control or with voice commands.
Planned Devices For Roku Connect System
- Roku Players and Roku TV – Roku players and Roku TVs will be updated with Roku Connect and the Roku Entertainment Assistant in the fall of 2018
- Roku Audio Soundbar – A Roku audio soundbar that has Roku Connect and the Roku Entertainment Assistant
- Roku Audio Speaker – A stand-alone Roku speaker that has Roku Connect and the Roku Entertainment Assistant
Roku Entertainment Assistant (Voice Assistant)
The Roku Entertainment Assistant allows voice commands to control supported Roku devices. Similar voice assistants are Siri and Alexa.
With the Roku voice assistant, you will be able to say, “Hey Roku, play music in the living room.” The Roku Connect device will play music to connected devices.
The Roku Entertainment Assistant will only be available on voice-supported Roku devices.
Final Thoughts
Roku’s design style is to keep things simple and functional. Roku’s remote controls and screen designs are outstanding. I expect that Roku will deliver that same simplicity, functionality, and usability with the Roku Connect and Roku Entertainment Assistant (Voice Assistant) systems. Being able to easily add great audio devices to a Roku Entertainment System could simplify owning and expanding your TV entertainment system.
