Netflix Customer Survey Email

I received a Netflix Customer Survey today.

Here is the email message sent with the survey link:

Help us shape the Netflix experience by taking this survey. Your feedback is very important to us, so we hope you will take the time to fill it out.

Netflix History

Many years ago Netflix sold a month-to-month plan for DVD rentals. A few years ago Netflix began to shift their subscriptions from DVD rentals to an online streaming movie service.

More recently, Netflix has shifted their content model again. The current Netflix subscription model focuses on TV series, Netflix original TV series, and Netflix original movie productions.

Survey Purpose

I believe this survey was for Netflix to test the waters about their current subscription model and their content.

Here are some example questions:

• Selection of Netflix Original TV shows (produced by Netflix) –> Not Satisfied / Satisfied
• Selection of movies and TV shows for children available –> Not Satisfied / Satisfied

• Selection of movies available –> Not Satisfied / Satisfied
• Selection of TV shows available –> Not Satisfied / Satisfied

House of Cards

The survey had a LOT of questions about House of Cards. I think that was because I said I liked the show.

The survey had questions about favorite scenes, least favorite scene, favorite actors, least favorite actors, how I found out about the show, have I watched all the episodes, do I watch House of Cards with anyone else, and who do you talk with about the show. For every single actor in the show (27), the survey asked if I wish I could see more of that actor or if I wanted to see less of that actor. Those questions felt like I might be voting someone off the show!

House of Cards is a Netflix produced and owned show and a very popular show. It is clear that Netflix wants to better understand how well the show House of Cards is really doing and Netflix might be testing the waters to see if they should make more shows like House of Cards.
