Watch Seinfeld on Netflix

That’s right. You will be able to watch Seinfeld on Netflix in 2021. And that includes all 180 episodes of Seinfeld.

Unconfirmed details of the deal put the cost to Netflix somewhere between $400 and $500 Million – or more – as part of a 5 year deal that starts in 2021. That deal is said to include the rights for Netflix to stream Seinfeld globally.

Netflix beat out other bidders to stream Seinfeld including Hulu, WarnerMedia, and NBCUniversal.

Until 2021, you can still watch Seinfeld on Hulu. Five years ago, Hulu got the rights to stream all 180 Seinfeld episodes for somewhere between $130 and $150 Million. Amazon currently has the international rights to stream Seinfeld through 2021.

The Battle for Streaming Syndicated TV Shows

Streaming syndicated TV shows is important to streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Disney, and HBO.

Streaming services that have a go-to catalog of popular TV shows can bring in new subscribers and keep existing ones. The larger the subscriber base is for Netflix, the better. Because a large subscriber base gives Netflix yet another opportunity to promote new shows and get subscribers to stick around.

Seinfeld is an important deal for Netflix.

Netflix recently lost two popular syndicated TV shows Friends and The Office. Netflix also lost the rights to create new content for the Disney owned Marvel franchises like Daredevil and Luke Cage.

And other streaming services are ready to pay big money to have the streaming rights to popular TV shows.

WarnerMedia’s streaming service (HBO Max) bought Friends in a reported five year deal for $425 Million.

WarnerMedia is also rumored to be ready to buy The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men in a deal for $1.5 Billion.
