Hulu Has Lost $1.887 Billion While Subscriber Numbers Climb
Hulu wants to be a streaming media leader. There is no doubt about it. But that is coming at a cost. Since 2016, Hulu has lost $1.887 Billion while subscriber numbers climb.
The competition between streaming media providers is heating up. The home TV entertainment is a MULTI-BILLION dollar industry. And Hulu in investing millions to be a streaming media leader.
Hulu Subscriber Numbers Climb
The good news is that Hulu subscriber numbers are climbing… rapidly.
Hulu Subscribers
Hulu has reported tremendous subscriber growth.
In January of 2018, Hulu reported 17 Million subscribers. And just 4 months later in May of 2018, Hulu reported having 20 Million subscribers.
Hulu Live TV Subscribers
Hulu Live TV is experiencing similar growth.
In January of 2018, Hulu Live TV had about 450,000 subscribers. And now in June of 2018, Hulu Live TV has more than 800,000 subscribers. For a service that is just turning 1-year-old, the Hulu Live TV subscriber growth is amazing.
Hulu Has Lost $1.877 Billion
But amazing subscriber growth comes at a cost. And Hulu is losing millions to get those subscribers.
Or more specifically… Hulu has lost $1.887 Billion in the last 9 quarters.
In 2016, Hulu lost $531 million.
In 2017, Hulu lost $920 Million.
And now in the first quarter of 2018, Hulu is reporting that they lost $436 Million. If that pace continues, Hulu will lose over $1.7 Million in 2018.

Hulu still has a way to go to reach Netflix’s U.S. subscriber total of 56.7 Million.
